Living from 1688 to 1772, and having absorbed most of the philosophy and scientific knowledge then available, Swedenborg made significant contributions to the development of metallurgy, engineering, physics, astronomy, physiology and psychology.  In middle age his interest turned more to philosophy and religion, and he found himself in touch with inner worlds of the spirit, and developed extraordinary visionary powers.  He was shown by the Lord new depths of meaning in the Bible, and felt called to describe a new age of freedom and spirituality in religion.  This he believed to be symbolised by the descent of the New Jerusalem from Heaven, described in the Book of Revelation.

This page contains a quotation from Swedenborg's theological writings for each day of the month. You could return every day to see a new quotation.
